I have the first page in my mini junk journal to share today! It is on ledger paper which I made sure to cover with clear gesso so the paper would hold up. it is a very Dina Wakley-esque page, with a splot of Dylusions Ink and some magenta paint. It came together very quickly, which is exactly what I wanted for this 'art everyday' venture. To see exactly how I made it, you can watch the process video at the end of this post. After making a project for Finnabair's Art Daily Café, it really inspired me to want to take a little time everyday for myself to be creative. I decided to take a bunch of junk (packaging, scraps, magazine pages, fabric etc.) and make myself a mini art journal that I could use to be creative everyday. It was important the pages were small, to keep it manageable. It has a fabric cover and probably the easiest binding ever (just a straight stitch thru the sewing machine). One of my favorite things to do when I feel uninspired, is go back thru my old YouTube videos and try to get some inspiration. I was doing that today as I came across this index card from 2015 that I thought would make a great journal page. So, I set out to recreate this project in my journal with some updated supplies. It's a new month, so that means DeeDee Catron and myself have challenged eachother to create projects and process videos using a mood board. This month DeeDee created the board and it is so inspiring. There is so much to pull from. WHAT IS "OUR MIXED MEDIA MOODS"? -It is a monthly collaboration between DeeDee Catron and myself. Each month we take turns creating a mood board, then we both create projects using that mood board for inspiration. We film process videos for our projects and post them to YouTube . The other day I was looking at an empty cigarette pack when it hit me, make a few cuts and this would make the perfect matchbox mini! What a perfect way to make something disgusting into something beautiful.   I did not actually use the cigarette pack, but it did inspire the measurements for the matchbox I did make. BOX MEASUREMENTS: Watercolor Outside Piece: 5 ¾” Long Scored at 2 ½” and 3 ¼” 4 ¼” Wide Scored at ¾” and 3 ½” Black Cardstock Drawer Piece: 4” x 4” scored at ¾” on all sides It's called "Little Talks" because I plan to fill the mini journal with a few positive affirmations. We all have those little talks with ourselves, be it positive or negative. When I first got some of the Dylusions Paints , I’ll be honest, I did not like them. It was obviously user error, because everyone else made them look gorgeous. I just couldn’t get them to blend nicely and I didn’t like the colors without being blended. But, I was determine and after playing around with different applications, I finally found applying/blending with a baby wipe gave me the most beautiful blend. Now, I love them and cannot get enough.   This is a double page spread in my mini moleskine. I just had to play with as many colors as possible, so I chose to have cool colors on one side and warm on another.   I have to admit, after I applied the mask/stencil of the girls, I didn’t really know what to do. When all else fails, scribble journal! That’s what I call the scribbly, loopy version of writing that I like to do in my journal. It totally came together after that for me.
