Art Journal Page - "Roots"

A few years ago, my mom gave me a photo album filled with vintage black and white photographs of my relatives. So, I created an altered book dedicated to making art journal-type pages for these photos. The book is a vintage math book. I tore some pages out and then glued 2 or 3 pages together for sturdiness.     The only two requirements for my pages in this book is, I want the entire book to have a vintage-y feel and I want each page to have quite a bit of space for journaling. I plan on getting the story behind each photo (if my mom knows it) and adding it to the page.     This page has a tag that slips behind the photo that I plan to journal on all about the photo. Right now all I know is (I think) the man in the photo is my great grandfather. I want to not only include dates and locations, but if my mother knows a little story or antidote about the person in the photo, I want to include that as well.     Process Video: Supplies: Go

Mini Matchbox Art Journal (Part I)

The other day I was looking at an empty cigarette pack when it hit me, make a few cuts and this would make the perfect matchbox mini! What a perfect way to make something disgusting into something beautiful.   I did not actually use the cigarette pack, but it did inspire the measurements for the matchbox I did make. BOX MEASUREMENTS: Watercolor Outside Piece: 5 ¾” Long Scored at 2 ½” and 3 ¼” 4 ¼” Wide Scored at ¾” and 3 ½” Black Cardstock Drawer Piece: 4” x 4” scored at ¾” on all sides It's called "Little Talks" because I plan to fill the mini journal with a few positive affirmations. We all have those little talks with ourselves, be it positive or negative. I want to fill it with all the positive little talks I should be having with myself on a daily basis.   Be sure to keep an eye out for Part II, where I add and embellish the mini art journal that goes inside the box! Art Journal Page - "Look on the Bright Side"

This page started with a tag I saw on Kassa Hayselden’s Instagram feed . She somehow takes a bunch of Dylusions Paint colors and Dina Wakley Paint colors and makes beautiful, colorful projects. I saw this tag and had to try to recreate it. Since the tag is so colorful, I felt I needed some black and white to set it off. I have this stack of black and white papers that I have been hoarding from SereneBee that I thought would be perfect for this.  The process for this page: Supplies: Heidi Swapp Stencil “Sunshine”: http://amzn.to/1n6WzaV Scribbly Women Stamp by Dina Wakley: http://amzn.to/1Nc2Re8 NeoColor II Crayons: Light Grey: http://amzn.to/1RUkKEv Lime Green: http://amzn.to/1n6WIeE Pink: http://amzn.to/1RUkOnI Tim Holtz “Small Talk” Phrases: http://amzn.to/1RUkVjb Watercolor Pencil: http://amzn.to/20tv0rx Finnabair Stamp “Messy”: http://amzn.to/1RUkXYh Heidi Swapp Ink Pad in "Teal" Golden Fluid Acrylic in Hansa Yellow Me

Art Journal Page - "Be Kind to Yourself"

If you have been following me for awhile, it is probably no shock I am in love with Dina Wakley. I stalk her blog and instagram. I have every book and DVD she has put out. I am obsessed. But usually when I make a page inspired by her, it ends up looking exactly like her style. I have been trying lately to make pages taking her techniques but not copying her. It's hard when I like her style so much. I don't think I succeeded in making this page look less like hers and more like mine, but oh well. Mini Moleskine Art Journal Page - "Changes"

When I first got some of the Dylusions Paints , I’ll be honest, I did not like them. It was obviously user error, because everyone else made them look gorgeous. I just couldn’t get them to blend nicely and I didn’t like the colors without being blended. But, I was determine and after playing around with different applications, I finally found applying/blending with a baby wipe gave me the most beautiful blend. Now, I love them and cannot get enough.   This is a double page spread in my mini moleskine. I just had to play with as many colors as possible, so I chose to have cool colors on one side and warm on another.   I have to admit, after I applied the mask/stencil of the girls, I didn’t really know what to do. When all else fails, scribble journal! That’s what I call the scribbly, loopy version of writing that I like to do in my journal. It totally came together after that for me. I took a quote from my “Words” Pinterest board and also added a few of my own word
