Mixed Media Tag - "Watercolor Flower"

I made this background a few month's back following a tutorial by DeeDee Catron . I liked it so much, I decided to recreate it on a tag.   One of my favorite techniques is using stamps to create watercolor paintings. The trick is to stamp the image with a light colored water-soluble ink, then color it with watercolors. I really like how this flower from the Tim Holtz Flower Garden Stamp Set turned out. It really looks like I painted it myself! Be sure to click the links above to check out DeeDee's tutorial as well as my journal page if you haven't seem them! Also, the complete supply list is linked at the bottom of this post.  I was going to add a little word sticker, but I like the flower image so much I wanted it to stand out on it's own.  Another of my favorite techniques: using different drywall tapes and texture paste thru stencils for texture, then going over it with a glaze to catch all the cracks and crevices. THANKS FOR LOOKING!

Art Journal Page - "Brutal Memory"

I think this may be the quickest, most simple page I ever made. It took me about 15 minutes INCLUDING drying time! They don't all have to be overly complicated, right? As long as I get out what I'm thinking or feeling, that's all that matters. And this quote fits my feels perfectly for today.   It's easy to go about the day to day not thinking of the past, or the people we have lost, but sometimes memories just beg to be recognized. They come out of nowhere, hit you in the chest and knock the wind out of you.   I lost a close friend a few years ago. Sadly, these days I don't think of him much. But some days... It comes from a song, a smell or a memory out of nowhere. For a split second, I almost forget he's gone. Yesterday was his birthday and I'm reminded that some people don't make it out. Some people never get the 'better days', or see the light at the end of the tunnel. While it does make me sad, it also makes me remember

Art Journal Page - "Our Memories"

This is a page out of my Vintage Altered Book that I am using to house my old family photos. I am scanning the originals and putting the copies in my book. This is a photo of my Grandparents with my mother. My mother was even able to tell me the exact address of the house they are standing in front of. I asked her where she thought they were going because my Grandmother is carrying her purse and my mom has a dress on. My grandmother never drove, so they must have been going to walk somewhere because it looked like my grandfather wasn’t dressed to go anywhere. My mom wasn’t sure, so I asked her if she had any story I could include with the photo. She told me that my grandmother walked to the grocery store to do her shopping every Saturday morning, rain or shine. She also told me she would wait for her to get back because my grandmother always brought her back comic books.   These are exactly the types of stories I want to include in this album. I was pleased all around wi

Artist Trading Card - "Love"

This is a Valentine ATC I made to play along with the Lindy’s Stamp Gang Color Challenge for February .   This is the Challenge color inspiration for this month: In the video, I don't show how I made the background or the heart embellishments. I will try my best to explain my process. Be sure to check out the supply list below! The Background: How I Made the Hearts: First, I put down some freezer paper. Then I took the Crafter's Workshop "Spilled Hearts" Stencil and some Golden Molding Paste. I applied the molding paste (in a fairly thick layer) thru the stencil right onto the freezer paper. Then, I let the hearts dry for at least 12 hours until they were completely dry. When they were dry, I used a thin metal spatula to get underneath the hearts and picked them up. It is important the paste is completely dry because if it’s not, they will get ruined when you try to peel them up off the freezer paper. Et voila! Instant heart embellishments.

Art Journal Page - "Keep Moving Forward"

I learned two things while making this page; not to give up on a page and Dylusions Paints and acrylic glazing are not friends. After I covered my page with paints, I added a black glaze. Ideally, I wanted it to catch on the modeling paste and grunge it up a bit. Well, it seemed to react strangely with the Dylusions Paints. The Lemon Zest turned this odd grey color. It seemed to me like the Glaze seeped into the paint and discolored it. Although, I only really noticed this reaction happen with the Lemon Zest, maybe because it is a lighter color. I might experiment with the orange and red Dylusions and see what happens. I had a plan for this page and It really threw me off when this happened. I decided to walk away for awhile, because I was about to toss the whole page completely. I didn't get re-inspired to work on it until about a month later. But, I am glad I didn't just throw it away because I ended up really liking it. I also learned how delightful th
